Hubris

Hooah, hooray! We’ve done it again!

Cheer of the mighty and triumphant;

A call of the blind. We fools.

None gained here is too big nor too small.

Excite as you must, remaining vigilant –

Collecting wins where you can, far

Too few and between; scant junctures.

This too shall pass. And when it does

If you’re lucky enough to be on the

Upside, cheer for it then you will not.

For the survivor inside won’t outlast

The guilt that you feel; won’t erase

The pride that you’ve swallowed and

Choked on inside. Paying the price

For other men’s avarice in your blood.
